HOBOKEN, N.J. (March 26, 2019) – Senior
Carson White made 11 saves to become the all-time leader in career saves to lead No. 11 Stevens Institute of Technology men's lacrosse to a 13-6 victory over Montclair State University Tuesday evening in a non-conference game at the DeBaun Athletic Complex. The game marked Stevens' final non-league contest of the season.
Sophomore
Nico Ipeker matched a career high with four goals to lead the offense as the Ducks won their fifth straight to improve to 8-2. The Ducks have won four straight games over their in-state rival and improved to 23-18 in the all-time series. Ipeker has scored seven goals on his last seven shots.
Christian Boyle scored twice to lead Montclair State, who fell to to 3-4. The Red Hawks have dropped two straight. The Ducks held Montclair State's leading scorer, Matt Haemmerle to just a single goal.
"It is always great to win against an in-state rival," said head coach
Gene Peluso. "We got a great game from Scadden, Caplis, Coyle and
Nico Ipeker."
White stopped three shots in the first, second and fourth quarters, while making two saves in the second to earn his eighth victory, while posting his sixth double-digit save performance of the season. The Downingtown, Pennsylvania native recorded his 591st career save in the third quarter to pass Stevens Hall of Famer Chet Vincentz, who made 590 saves between 1957 and 1959.
"I was so happy to see Carson break the record [tonight]," Peluso reflected. "That record held by Chet is an awesome record and one that was in tact for over 60 years!"
Jack Cardew drew the start for Montclair State and made six saves to suffer the loss. Matthew McLaren came off the bench to record eight saves over the final 37 minutes.
Sophomore
Ryan Gebhardt extended his scoring streak by totaling three goals on six shots for his seventh hat trick of the season. The Baldwinsville, New York native has collected at least one point in 20 straight games dating back to last season. Seniors

Eric Radbourne joined junior
Brendan Monteleone in adding a goal and an assist, while sophomore
Ryan Caplis found the back of the net on two different occasions for the Ducks, who have reached double figures in every game this season. Senior
Dean Peluso also scored, as did freshman
Michael Burns, while sophomore
Sean Scadden recorded his first collegiate point with a fourth-quarter assist.
Gebhardt opened scoring on Stevens' second possession of the game, beating Cardew eighty-three seconds into the contest. Boyle knotted the score on Montclair's next possession before the White and Cardew alternated saves to keep the game even. Peluso stripped Tim Elfonte on a clear attempt, leading to Burns blasting a shot past the Montclair netminder to again put the home team in front. The Charlotte, North Carolina native scored his first career goal against Utica.
Consecutive penalties led to back-to-back man-up goals as the Ducks extended their lead to three. Radbourne closed out the opening quarter with his 17th of the season to give Stevens a 5-1 advantage after the first period.
Monteleone, Caplis and Gebhardt proved the offensive firepower in the second quarter as the Ducks' lead grew to seven. Montclair State scored four straight goals to pull within three, but Stevens responded with a run of their own, scoring five straight goals to put the game out of reach. Ipeker began the rally with his 10th of the season and the sophomore attackman closed the stretch with consecutive goals to put the game out of reach. Bryan Peters beat White with just over two minutes left in the game to provide the final margin.
Stevens outshot Montclair State, 47-20, including a 27-17 margin shots on goal. The Ducks have outshot every opponent this season. Radbourne led all players with nine shots, while Boyle topped the Red Hawks with six.
Defensively, Scadden forced a career-high four turnovers, while freshman
Craig Stockfeder caused three as Stevens pressured Montclair State into 25 miscues for the game, while committing just 13.
Stevens won 13 of 23 faceoffs, with senior
Nicholas Carnovale earning nine of the 13. Junior
Connor Murphy accounted for the other four victories as each of Stevens' faceoff specialists posted a winning record. The edge in the 'X' helped Stevens gain a 36-22 edge in ground balls, with Carnovale picking up a game-high six. Kyle Matthews led Montclair with five.
Stevens was successful on 20 of its 21 clear attempts, marking the second consecutive game that the Ducks had only one failed clear. Stevens' defensive pressure in the midfield forced Montclair State into a successful clear on 14 of their 23 attempts.
The Ducks scored on two of their five extra-man opportunities, while killing off Montclair State's lone power play. Gebhardt recorded his team-leading eighth 'Up' goal of the season in the opening quarter, while Ipeker added his third man-advantage goal 93 seconds later.
