ROCHESTER, NY. (March 31, 2019) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team squared off against the University of Rochester in a non-conference showdown on Sunday. Both teams came into the match regionally ranked with the University of Rochester sitting at #11 while Stevens was just three spots behind them at #14 in the latest ITA Northeast Regional rankings. University of Rochester is also currently ranked #33 in the latest ITA national rankings. The Ducks battled but could not pull off the upset against the strong Yellowjacket squad losing 6-3 at Goergen Athletic Center. Stevens drops to 4-8 on the season, the University of Rochester improves to 10-2.

Rochester struck first by taking the No. 2 doubles flight, but #4 regionally ranked sophomore
Bryan Szayna and March Feliu Gomez responded with a win to get the Ducks on the board. The #1 duo took out #8 regionally ranked Masaru Fujimaki and Runjia Fang of UR to even the score at one. The Yellowjackets would win the third doubles flight and take a 2-1 lead heading into the singles competition.
The University of Rochester extended their lead to 4-1 after posting straight-set wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 singles flights. Sophomore
Keegan Morris cut into UR's lead by winning in impressive fashion in the fourth doubles flight 7-5, 6-2. The Yellowjackets crushed the hopes of a comeback for the Ducks by taking the No.2 singles flight and clinching the win for home team. Sophomore
Arjun Krishnan secured his fourth singles win of the year by taking the fifth singles flight in straight-sets 6-3, 6-4.
Up Next: The men's tennis team will host an Empire 8 Conference doubleheader on April 6
th at Stevens Tennis Courts where they will take on St. John Fisher at 10 AM and Nazareth College at 1:00 PM.
