Men's Tennis sweeps conference doubleheader

Men's Tennis outscores opponents 18-0, moves to 3-1 in E8

HOBOKEN, NJ (April 6, 2019) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team impressed in their first home matches of the season on Saturday by taking out St. John Fisher College and Nazareth College at Stevens Tennis Courts. Stevens day started with a 9-0 win over St. John Fisher and followed it up by blanking Nazareth College 9-0 to improve to 6-8 on the season, 3-1 in the Empire 8. St. John Fisher drops their season record to 1-8, Nazareth falls to 1-9.

St. John Fisher College Match

The Ducks got out to a great start by sweeping the doubles competition. Sophomore Bryan Szayna and freshman Marc Feliu Gomez cruised to an 8-2 win in the No. 1 doubles flight. The sophomore duo of Mark Kanevsky and Gabriel Sifuentes followed up with an impressive 8-2 win of their own in the second doubles flight. Sophomore Arjun Krishnan and freshman Garrett Kincaid secured the sweep with a solid 8-1 victory in the No.3 doubles flight giving the Ducks a 3-0 lead heading into singles.

Stevens registered six straight-set victories in the singles competition to complete the shut out. Kanevsky didn't surrender a single game against Dustin McCullough in the second singles flight and Sifuentes only loss one game in his victory at No. 3 singles. Freshman Arjun Krishnan, Gomez, Kincaid, and Krishnan were the other four Ducks to post singles victories in the morning match up against Fisher.

Nazareth College Match

Stevens kept it rolling in their second match of the day against Nazareth with another sweep of the doubles competition. Bryan Szayna and Marc Feliu Gomez recorded their second No. 1 doubles victory of the day and improved to 13-2 on the year. The freshmen duo of Mark-Jonathan Pabalan and Eloi Pradier got the second point on the board for the Ducks by posting an 8-2 win in the second doubles flight. Freshman Brian Li and Garrett Kincaid followed up with an 8-2 win of their own in the final doubles flight of the day.

Freshman Arjun Krishnan and Kanevsky both finished the day 2-0 in singles after registering straight-set wins against their respective Nazareth opponents. Szayna, Li, Pabalan and Pradier secured the shut out for the Ducks by registering straight-set victories and increasing Stevens current match win streak to three.  

Up Next: The men's tennis team will take a break from Empire 8 competition and take on Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York on April 13th.
