Grant Burden registered a career-high 54 assists as the No. 4 Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team topped Marymount University in four sets (25-20, 29-31, 25-19, 25-19) in a non-conference match Friday evening at Jack McCloskey Court.
Sophomore
Ryan Byrne delivered a career-best 18 kills while junior
David Lehman added 17 kills for the Ducks, who improved to 16-2 on the year.
Marymount was led by Sam Safley with 16 kills and Ervin Harrell with 11. The Saints fell to 8-11 this season.
Volleys and Points
- Harrell issued a kill to give Marymount the first point of the match.
- Senior Cooper Diamond answered by setting down a pass from Burden.
- Marymount earned a one-point lead following a kill by James Knight and a block from Harrell and Evan Flesher.
- The Ducks took a 9-6 lead after two errors by the Saints and one kill apiece from Lehman and sophomore Jack Bittker.
- A 5-0 run by Stevens that was led by three kills from Byrne gave the Ducks a 16-9 advantage.
- Junior Jonathan Frenzel delivered back-to-back aces that put Stevens up 20-13.
- The Saints tried to claw back, scoring their next five points on kills, but the Ducks had already created too much of a distance and Byrne ended the set after putting down a pass from Burden.
- Diamond set down a pass from Burden to open the second set.
- Following a kill by Harrell, an error by Stevens and a block by Joseph Zanelotti, the Saints took a four-point lead.
- Diamond collected two blocks, one with Lehman and one with Bittker, prior to Marymount committing to errors to tie the set at nine.

- The Ducks brough themselves back within one point after two kills from Bittker and an additional from Byrne.

- Stevens was able to take a 25-24 lead following a kill from Byrne, a Saints error and a block by Byrne and Frenzel.
- Marymount tied the set at 29 after a kill by Remington Shahan, who then issued another kill before the Ducks committed an error, allowing the Saints to win the second set.
- The Saints jumped on a 6-3 lead to begin the third set when Knight set down a pass before blocking an attempt by Byrne with Flesher.
- Stevens took a one-point lead after freshman Stedman van Arsdale and Bittker each collected a kill before a Marymount error and a block by Bittker.
- Marymount was able to come within one point following a Safley kill and a block by Flesher and Knight.
- Bittker and Lehman delivered kills prior to Lehman and Diamond blocking an attempt by Harrell to take a 22-17 lead.
- Flesher and Harrell each tallied a kill, but an error by Marymount gave the Ducks the 25th point of the third set.
- After the teams traded points to begin the final set, Diamond set down a pass from Burden before blocking an attempt by Knight with Byrne and Lehman, giving Stevens a 10-8 lead.
- The Saints brought themselves within one point when Flesher and Safley each issued a kill.
- The Ducks went on a 6-0 run that included three kills from Lehman and one kill apiece from Byrne, Bittker and Diamond to give Stevens the 22-16 advantage.

- Diamond set down a pass from Burden to earn the final point of the match.

Unsung Hero
- Bittker finished just shy of a double-double with his 15 kills and nine digs performance. The Penfield, New York native added three blocks and an ace to end the night.
