Men's Tennis powers past #33 Hobart

A doubles sweep propels the Ducks to an upset win over Hobart

HOBOKEN, NJ. (April 14, 2019) – The Stevens Institute of Institute of Technology men's tennis team picked up a huge non-conference win on Sunday against nationally ranked Hobart College at Stevens Tennis Courts 5-3. Stevens came out strong and left no doubt against #33 Hobart to improve their record to 7-9 on the year, Hobart falls to 10-5. This was a huge win for the young Duck squad and they will look to build off of today's success as they head into the backend of their schedule.

"I'm super proud of how we came out in doubles today. Our intensity, focus, and will to win was exactly what we needed today and as a result we swept doubles against a very tough Hobart team," stated Head Coach Steve Gachko. "Today was a big confidence boost for our guys to show what we are capable of when we trust each other out there."

Sophomore Bryan Szayna and freshman Marc Feliu Gomez set the tone early for Stevens with a convincing 8-4 win in the first doubles flight. The sophomore duo of Mark Kanevsky and Gabriel Sifuentes built on the Ducks lead with an impressive 8-3 victory in the No. 2 doubles flight. Sophomore Keegan Morris and freshman Garrett Kincaid completed the doubles sweep with an 8-5 win in the third doubles flight to give Stevens a commanding 3-0 lead heading into the singles competition.

The Ducks wasted no time in singles to secure the match thanks to strong individual performances by Mark Kanevsky and Keegan Morris.  Morris kept the momentum rolling for Stevens with a straight-set win in the No. 4 singles flight 6-2, 6-1 and extended their lead to 4-0. Kanevsky made sure there was going to be no comeback attempt by the visiting team by taking the fifth singles flight 6-0, 6-4 and clinching the upset. Hobart finally got on the board with wins at the No. 2, No. 1, and No.5 singles flights. Sophomore Arjun Krishnan was up one set on Colin Molloy in the sixth singles flight before the match was called due to rain.
