Marissa Cappello and junior
Samantha Schattin of the Stevens Institute of Technology softball team were named Pitcher of the Week and Player of the Week, respectively, by the Empire 8 Conference on Monday.
The honor marks the first career weekly accolade for Schattin and the second for Cappello as she was tabbed E8 Pitcher of the Week on April 1. Softball now totals three honors so far this season.Â
Cappello collected four wins and one loss on the mound as Stevens went 7-1 over the week. The Mantua, New Jersey native registered 37 strikeouts in her five appearances, including a season-best 13 against Houghton. Over the week, Cappello only allowed two earned runs in 23 innings of work.
Schattin ended the week with a .357 batting average. The Princeton Junction, New Jersey native collected 10 hits in 28 at bats, including three doubles and a triple. Schattin went 4-for-4 at the plate in Stevens' 3-1 win over Elmira and 3-for-3 in the 9-0 win over Utica. The junior added three RBI, eight runs, and six stolen bases.Â
