UTICA, NY. (April 20, 2019) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team improved their current match win streak to three thanks to an 9-0 win on Saturday over Empire 8 opponent Utica College at Utica College Tennis Courts. This is Stevens seasons third shutout of the season and move their record to 9-9, 4-1 in the conference. Utica falls to 3-8 on the year and 1-4 in the conference. The Ducks lead from start to finish and put on an impressive performance against the Pioneers.
The freshmen duo of
Arjun Krishnan and
Mark-Jonathan Pabalan started the doubles competition off nicely with an 8-0 win in the No.2 doubles flight. Freshman
Eloi Pradier and freshman
Brian Li followed up with a shutout victory of their own in the third doubles flight. Sophomore Byan Szayna and freshman
Marc Feliu Gomez continue to impress in their first season paired together. The No. 1 doubles team made it a clean sweep of the doubles flights with an 8-2 win and giving the Ducks a nice lead heading into singles.
Stevens was equally impressive in the singles competition and recorded six straight-set wins to complete the shut out against Utica. Li didn't drop a single game in his win at the sixth singles flight and freshman
Garrett Kincaid only dropped one game in his victory at the No.3 singles flight. Sophomore got the nod for the No. 1 singles flight and made the most of his appearance by recording a solid 6-1, 6-1 win against L.J. Nuzzo. Rounding out the team scoring for Stevens was freshman
Arjun Krishnan, Pabalan, and Pradier.
Up Next: The men's tennis team will host The College of New Jersey in a non-conference showdown on Wednesday, April 24
th at Stevens Tennis Courts. TCNJ will come into the match ranked #29 nationally, action will start at 3:00 PM.
