Lehman and Bittker Honored by AVCA

David Lehman was named First Team All-America and Jack Bittker earned Honorable Mention All-America by the AVCA.

HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 22, 2019)  – Junior David Lehman has been named First Team All-America and sophomore Jack Bittker was tabbed Honorable Mention All-America by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, as announced by the organization Monday.

Lehman earned First Team All-America for the second year in a row, marking the third career accolade for the Oakland, California native by the AVCA as he earned Second Team All-America at the conclusion of his first year on Castle Point.

The junior averages 4.36 points per set to lead Stevens and ranks eighth in Division III with 3.95 kills per set. Lehman has recorded double-digit kills in 22 matches, including the last 13-straight contests. On April 13, Lehman collected his 1000th career kill in the United Volleyball Conference Semifinal match against New York University. The Computer Engineering major adds 1.11 digs and 0.66 blocks per set for the Ducks.

"This is the third time David's name has been on the All-American list and it is not a surprise," commented assistant coach Austin Voges. "As we see it, David is one of, if not the best, offensive weapon in the country. Teams game plan to stop him, but if you look at his statistics or watch our matches, you can see how difficult that is. Besides just being an offensive force, David has worked hard this season to become a better defender and server. He is a great competitor and puts in the effort to help his team win, something his coaches and teammates love to see."

Bittker earns his first AVCA honor following an impressive sophomore campaign. The Penfield, New York native is second on the team in both kills and digs per set, averaging 2.86 and 1.58, respectively. The sophomore collected double-digit kills in 14 matches and registered his first career double-double of 12 kills and 12 digs against No. 12 Elms on March 30. Bittker helped lead Stevens past Wells in the NCAA Quarterfinal match with his career-best 17 kills.

"Jack worked extremely hard in the off season to win our starting outside hitter position and it is great to see him now get recognized by the AVCA and other coaches," expressed Voges. "Not only has Jack been a solid contributor for us all season, his energy and confidence are both something our team can rally behind during matches."
