HOBOKEN, N.J. (May 10, 2019) – Stevens Institute of Technology softball senior
Christine LaRochelle was named to the Google Cloud Academic Academic All-District Softball Team Thursday, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The honor marks the first All-District recognition for softball since
Danielle DeFeo earned the accolade in 2014 for the second time in her career. LaRochelle becomes just the second player in program history to earn the award.
The senior pitcher boasts a 4.0 grade-point average and will graduate with both a bachelor's degree in Engineering Management and a master's degree in Systems Engineering. In addition, LaRochelle will earn master's certificates in systems engineering, data exploration and visualization for risk and decision making.
On the field, the Somerset, New Jersey native ended her final season on Castle Point with 71 strikeouts over 120 innings pitched and an ERA of 2.74. LaRochelle ranks second in program history in both career innings pitched (401.6) and ERA (2.75) and third with 224 career strikeouts.
First team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot, the results of which will be announced in late May. LaRochelle's honor came out of the Second District, which includes schools from Connecticut, Washington, D.C., Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Rhode Island and West Virginia.
