No. 19/RV Men’s Soccer’s Streak Hits Six with 2-1 Victory over Rutgers-Newark

Hocken nets two for the second consecutive match to lead Ducks to victory.

NEWARK, N.J. (September 14, 2019)  – Junior Cristiano Hocken turned in his second straight two-goal performance to lift No. 19/RV Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer over Rutgers-Newark 2-1 Saturday evening in a non-conference fixture at Frederick Douglass Field.

After going two years between multi-goal outings, Hocken scored in the 20th and 81st minutes to turn in his second two-goal result in four days. The New Providence, New Jersey native moved into fourth place in the MAC Freedom in goals scored and leads the team with eight points.

Junior Aedan Boriotti stopped three shots to earn the victory as the Ducks moved to 6-0 in what is believed to be the best start for the program in at least 25 years. Ryan Silva scored off a free kick in the 22nd minute to account for the Scarlet Raiders' lone tally of the evening. The first-half goal stopped Boriotti's scoreless streak at 327:42. Andres Medina made four saves for Rutgers-Newark, who fell to 3-3. The Ducks have taken each of the last two meetings between the programs.

Sophomore Sean Masur found himself open in space and fired a scoring attempt in the 20th minute. Medina stopped the Bridgewater, New Jersey native's try and Hocken carefully collected the rebound and sent it into the open net for the first goal of the match.

Hocken completed the brace in the second half by converting Masur's nifty feed from just outside the six. Masur earned the assist on both goals for the first multi-point performance of his career. The second-year midfielder surpassed his assist total from one season ago. Hocken connected with sophomore Adam Silva on both markers Wednesday evening. The 81st-minute goal is Hocken's fourth career game-winning goal.
