HOBOKEN, N.J. (Sept. 18, 2019) – Led by a balanced attack featuring a team hitting percentage of .307 in the match, the Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team kicked off play in the MAC Freedom with a 3-0 (25-11, 25-18, 25-15) victory over Wilkes Wednesday inside Canavan Arena.
With the win, Stevens has now won 52 consecutive regular season conference matches dating back to October of 2012. The Ducks improved their overall record to 3-5 while the Colonels dropped to 6-6.
Offensively, the Ducks had six players register at least six kills, led by freshman
Allie Morton who finished with 10. It was the second time this season Morton has had double-digit kills.
Stevens also was fantastic on the service line, posting 10 total service aces to match the season high set on Sept. 7 against United States Merchant Marine Academy.
Volleys and Points
- After trading points back-and-forth early in the first set, Stevens was able to begin to pull away with a 7-0 run to make the score 14-6.
- The Ducks put the opening set away late by taking home eight of the final nine points of the set to win 25-11.
- Much like in the first, Stevens was able to pull away early in the second set thanks to a quick 7-1 run.
- Trailing 14-9, Wilkes was able to cut the deficit to two after winning five of the next seven points of the set.
- The Ducks closed strong again, however, ending the second stanza on a 7-2 run to win the set 25-18.
- After Stevens opened the third set on a 6-1 run, the Colonels clawed their way back into the match using a 7-3 rally of their own to trail by just one.
- It was all for naught as the Ducks closed the match out on a 10-2 run which included eight straight points for the home team.
Match Point
- The Ducks took home the third set as well as the match after Wilkes' Jamey Mikovich committed an attack error.
Inside the Numbers
- Stevens came out firing in the first set, hitting .522 while holding the Colonels to a .077 attack percentage.
- The Ducks held a huge 10-1 edge in aces as well as a 41-32 advantage in digs.
- Defensively, junior Jillian Roumbanis produced 17 digs in the match to lead the team.
- In addition to producing 22 total assists in the match, sophomore Kathleen Reigner also registered four aces.
- In total, Stevens trailed only twice (2-1-Set Two, 1-0 Set Three) through three sets in the victory.
Unsung Hero
- Senior Kristen Edmiston was steady throughout the match, hit a season-high .333 while notching five kills.

- The Ducks will host the Ducks Classic Friday and Saturday featuring Stockton University, Cabrini University and SUNY-New Paltz.
- Stevens will open play in the Ducks Classic with a contest against Stockton Friday at 4:00 p.m. inside Canavan Arena.
- In total, Stevens holds a 2-4 all-time record against Stockton, a 5-6 record against New Paltz and it will be the first women's volleyball matchup between Cabrini and the Ducks in the history of the two programs.
