TROY, N.Y. (Sept. 21, 2019) –
Brynn Froehlich found the back of the next with less than four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter to lift the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team past Rensselear Polytechnic Institute Saturday at Ned Harkness Field.
Trailing 1-0 at halftime, Stevens got second half goals from Froehlich as well as
Ireland Tawney to grab the win and move to 5-3 on the season while RPI fell to 0-7.
After RPI scored in the ninth minute of the contest, the Ducks were able to tie the game in the 43rd minute when Tawney was able to grab a loose ball in front of the net and deposit it into the goal.
At the 57-minute mark of the fourth quarter, Froehlich was able to tip in a deflected shot and give Stevens the lead for good.
Turning Point
- With 56:14 on the clock, Skylar Migliaccio fired a shot off a penalty corner that deflected off the goalie and to the feet of Froehlich.
- The junior out of San Diego, Calif., had no trouble beating the goalkeeper on the backside of the net for her third goal of the season.
Inside the Numbers
- The Ducks have now won three straight contests and are 4-2 in one-score games on the year.
- Stevens outshot the Engineers 25-4 in the game, including holding a 13-1 edge in shots on goal.
- Froehlich led the way for the Ducks with six total shots and three shots on goal while Tawney and Alyssa Appleby each had four shots apiece.
Unsung Heros
- The entire Stevens defense was fantastic throughout the contest, allowing just four total shots and only one shot on goal.
- The four shots and one on goal was the lowest output by an opponent for the Ducks this season.
From the Sidelines (Head Coach Meredith Spencer-Blaetz)
- "The team made some great adjustments today to come from behind and secure the win. It's encouraging to see the unit double down and get on the same page, which we did well in the second half and it paid off with some quality goals."
