No. 16/23 Men’s Soccer Earns 1-1 Draw with Stevenson

Poskitt scores, but men's soccer plays to a 1-1 tie with Stevenson.

OWINGS MILLS, Pa. (September 21, 2019)  – Sophomore Jay Poskitt scored a highlight-reel goal in the 56th minute, however No. 16/23 Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer played to a 1-1 draw with Stevenson University Saturday in a non-conference fixture played at Mustang Stadium.

Junior Cristiano Hocken played a crossing ball into the 18-yard box, where Poskitt, who had entered the match 53 seconds prior, dove forward and successfully headed the ball past Matt Stellitano for his first goal of the year. Hocken has collected at least one point in three of the last four matches.

Alex Morales had the lone goal of the match for the Mustangs, who dropped to 3-2-2. Stellitano made five saves for Stevenson, who is winless over its last three matches.

Junior Aedan Boriotti stopped a pair of shots for the Ducks, who saw their record fall to 6-1-1. After a scoreless opening half, the Sea Girt, New Jersey native made a sliding stop of Jay Smith's try in the 47th minute.

Inside the Numbers
  • Stevens outshot Stevenson 18-13, including a 6-3 edge in shots on net. DR Medtart fired off a match-high four attempts for the Mustangs, while sophomore Matthew Pinho, junior Cristiano Hocken and freshman Brendan Mulligan each took three attempts to pace the Ducks. The margin was especially advantageous in the second half, where the visiting Ducks held a 13-5 margin.
  • Junior Stephen Johnson was the only player in the match to fire more than one shot on target.
  • Both teams earned eight corners.
  • Stevens has played to at least two ties every season since 2014.

Unsung Hero
  • Boriotti preserved the tie with a save of Tariq Lee's bicycle kick try in the 110th minute.
