EWING, N.J. (September 25, 2019) – Sophomore
Sean Masur netted his first goal of the season, however RV/RV Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer was unable to overcome a two-goal halftime deficit and fell to The College of New Jersey 2-1 Wednesday in a non-conference fixture played at Lions Stadium.
Freshman
Bruno Andino recorded his first collegiate point and sophomore
Gianni Falvo also had an assist for Stevens, who dropped to 6-2-1. Junior goalkeeper
Aedan Boriotti made one save, but suffered the defeat.
Dante Bettino scored twice in a 37-second span to spur the Lions to their eighth win of the year. Daniel Mecadon made four saves to secure the victory for TCNJ, who improved to 8-2 on the season. The Lions, who snapped a three-match losing streak to Stevens, remain perfect (3-0) at home.
Trailing at the half, the Ducks attempted to push the pace in the second stanza. In the 72nd minute, caution was shown to TCNJ's Timmy Suchora. Freshman
Bruno Andino took the ensuing free kick and sent a ball looping towards the box. Sophomore Gianna Falvo headed the ball to Masur, who scored from just outside the six. The marker was the Bridgewater, New Jersey native's first tally of the season, after scoring twice in his freshman campaign.
The Ducks continued to apply pressure in the final minutes, but Mecadon stuffed sophomore
Jay Poskitt's try in the 86th minute to preserve the victory.
Turning Point
- Bettino headed in Kevin Esteves' corner kick in the 32nd minute to open scoring.
- The Ducks were unable to come forward on their next possession. The team attempted to play the ball back to Boriotti to begin their march down the field, however the pass was intercepted by Bettino and the forward buried his second of the game from well outside the 18-yard box.
Inside the Numbers
- Stevens held an 11-8 margin in shots, which included a 5-3 margin in shots on net. Poskitt topped the Ducks with three shots, including two on frame. Bettino led all players with four shots and three shots on goal.
- TCNJ earned four corners, while Stevens earned just two.
- The teams combined for 24 fouls and five cautions.
- Falvo is tied with classmates Masur and Adam Silva for the team lead with three assists.

- "Tough one tonight. Two lapses in concentration cost us the game."
- "I was proud of the response in the second half and we pushed TCNJ hard until the end. [Now, we] have to bounce back on Saturday, as we play a very tough opponent in NYU."

- RV/RV Stevens heads to Riverdale, New York for a non-conference fixture with cross-river rival, New York University, on Sept. 28.
- This will be the first meeting between the teams since 2013. The Ducks earned a victory in four of the five previous meetings.
