Casey King registered a double-double for the third consecutive match and junior
Jillian Roumbanis produced the third game in her career with at least 20 digs to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep of King's College Wednesday at McGrane Gymnasium.
Stevens handed King's just its second loss of the season in sweeping fashion, winning the contest 25-19, 25-13, 25-16. It was the fourth sweep of the year for the Ducks who are now 4-1 in their last five contests, 6-6 overall and 2-0 MAC Freedom play.
The Monarchs, meanwhile, were led by Becca Goldberg who registered 10 kills as King's dropped to 11-2, 1-1 in the MAC Freedom.
It was a fantastic night offensively and defensively for King, producing 12 kills and 12 digs to match season highs in both categories. The defending MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Week also hit .333 in the match and now has 22 total double-doubles in her career.
Roumbanis, meanwhile, produced 20 digs to tie the second-best output of her career. She has now produced double-digit kills in nine of the Ducks' 12 contests on the year and is averaging 6.16 digs per set in MAC Freedom competition.
Volleys and Points
- The Ducks came out of the gates on fire to start the match, winning six of the first seven points of the opening set.
- Trailing 16-10, the Monarchs began to climb back into the match by using a pair of quick 3-0 runs to cut the deficit to 18-16.
- Stevens was able to hold King's off, however, closing the contest on a 4-1 run to win the set 25-19.
- With the score 11-8 in set number two, the Ducks again were able to enforce their will on the Monarchs by going on a dominant 14-5 run over the final half of the set highlighted by three kills from senior Sara Hain.
- The teams went back-and-forth for the majority of the third and final set of the match, with neither team leading by more than four points for the first half of the set.
- Ahead 15-13, Stevens began to pull away late in the set when they rattled off six consecutive points.
- The Ducks closed the contest by winning four of the final five points of the final set to grab a 25-16 victory.
Match Point
- Senior Shelby Stewart was able to rise up and finish her ninth kill of the contest to put the match away.
Inside the Numbers
- Stevens has now won 53 consecutive regular season conference matches dating back to October of 2012.
- The Ducks were dominant defensively in the game, holding King's to an .037 attack percentage while out blocking the Monarchs 6-1.
- Stevens also held a distinct edge in aces (8-2), kills (45-22) and digs (58-48).
- Hain and Stewart both finished with nine kills while hitting .467 and .500 in the match, respectively.
- As a team, Stevens hit .298 in the contest, the second-highest output of the season.
- Along with Roumbanis and King, sophomore Elizabeth Chu and freshman Enkhsanaa Enkhbayar also registered double-digit digs in the contest.
- Sophomore setter Kathleen Riegner picked up 37 assists on the night to go along with two service aces and three digs.
Unsung Hero
- Ehkhbayar was stellar on the court, producing 10 digs while also adding a pair of service aces in the victory.
Chasing History
- After generating two total blocks, Stewart now has 403 career total blocks to sit just 26 blocks from breaking the school record of 428 set by Maggie Kowalska.
- Hain hit .467 in the matchup to raise her season attack percentage to .424. If the season ended today, the senior from Roseville, Minnesota, would break the school record for career and season attack percentage.

- "It always feels good to get a conference win and it feels even better when we're clicking and having fun while doing it. Our whole team was engaged from top to bottom and it was a very solid showing."
- "After the first set, we challenged our passers and defense to give Kathleen better first contacts and they did just that. Once we got in a rhythm our offense was hard to stop."

- The Ducks will travel to Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania to play in the River Hawk Invitational hosted by Susquehanna University.
- Stevens will kick off play in the Invitational by taking on the University of Scranton Friday at 5:00 p.m.
