ANNVILLE, Pa. (January 27, 2020)  – Senior
Dylan Van Sickell of No. 24 Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling was named Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Wrestler of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
It's the second weekly award for the program this season and the first career weekly recognition for Van Sickell.
"Dylan's performance this weekend was a testament to his growth both as a wrestler and as a man," said head coach
Joe Favia. "He is on a mission, he is focused, and most importantly, he is having fun competing. He doesn't care who steps across the mat from him - he is only interested in giving his maximum effort and letting the result take care of itself. It's not an easy mindset to have, but it's how the best compete. It's great recognition for Dylan to be named Wrestler of the Week; he has earned it and it's a great indicator that he is on the right path."
Van Sickell won his 17th and 18th matches of the year last Saturday in helping the 24th-ranked Ducks defeat both Manchester and sixth-ranked Johnson & Wales at the Stevens Quad. The 157-pounder pinned Manchester's Joel Arney in the first period and then produced perhaps an even better performance against the Wildcats, defeating nationally-ranked Da'Mani Burns via a 9-2 decision that included an impressive 4:35 of riding time. Van Sickell's effort came in the next-to-last match of the dual and put Stevens in front for good to secure the team victory. Of the 10th-ranked Van Sickell's 18 victories, seven have come by pin and five have come via major decision. The five majors are tied for the team lead.
Up Next: No. 24 Wrestling welcomes York (Pa.) College to Canavan Arena on Jan. 31 for the second of three straight events Canavan Arena. A video link for the dual is available on StevensDucks.com.
