Women’s Basketball Leads Wire-to-Wire For 63-48 Victory Over FDU-Florham

Li and Broad Finish in Double Figures to Snap Four-Game Losing Streak

HOBOKEN, N.J. (January 29, 2020) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team opened the contest on a 10-0 run and went on to finish with a 63-48 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham Campus Wednesday inside Canavan Arena.

Stevens held FDU-Florham to 28.1 percent shooting from the floor and outrebounded the Devils 52-40 in the win. The Ducks also got double-digit scoring from junior Christina Li and sophomore Jess Broad to snap a four-game losing streak.

The Devils were led offensively by Jayda Bing who finished with 19 points along with a game-high 15 rebounds.

Li, who now ranks fourth in the MAC Freedom in 3-point field goal percentage, finished the contest with a team-high 19 points after going 7 for 18 from the floor and 5 for 13 from downtown. Broad, meanwhile, scored in double figures for the seventh consecutive game with 17 points to go along with a team-high eight boards.

Sophomore Allie Moss hit the first shot of the game at the 9:12 mark and the Ducks never trailed after that, getting back-to-back 3-pointers from Li as a part of the 10-0 flurry.

After FDU-Florham answered with five consecutive points to make the score 10-5, Stevens closed the first on an 8-2 run to take an 11-point lead heading into the second.

The Devils were able to cut the deficit to single digits early in the second, but could not get closer than nine as the Ducks scored 13 straight, highlighted by eight points from Li and five by junior Emily Nunez, to take a 31-9 lead and did not lead by less than 13 for the remainder of the contest.

Leading 41-24 in the third, Stevens extended the lead to 26, its largest of the contest, after a 14-5 run featuring five points from Li and four apiece by Broad and freshman Danielle Cornetta.

Trailing 61-39 late in the contest, FDU-Florham closed the game on a 9-2 run to cut the deficit to 15 and make the final score 63-48 in favor of the Ducks.

Stevens finished the contest with a season-high 14 steals while also pulling down 19 offensive rebounds, one shy of tying a new season-high.

By virtue of DeSales University's 59-57 victory over Eastern University Wednesday night, the Ducks now stand just one game back of Eastern for fourth place in the MAC Freedom after completing the first half of conference play.
