HOBOKEN, N.J. (January 3, 2020) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team did not start the new decade as they had hoped as they fell 64-48 Friday afternoon against Montclair State University inside Canavan Arena.
Trailing 21-20 with 6:48 remaining in the second quarter, Montclair St. scored 23 consecutive points to close the second and open the third quarters to take command of the contest. The Red Hawks have now won eight consecutive contests against Stevens dating back to the 2009-10 season.
The Ducks were led offensively by junior
Christina Li who finished tied for a game-high with 16 points while going 4 for 6 from 3-point-range.
The Red Hawks saw three players score at least 10 points in the victory, including Alex McKinnon who finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season.
In addition to Li, senior
Emily Nunez also finished in double figures for Stevens for the first time in her career. Nunez finished with a career-high 11 points and knocked down three 3-point baskets in the contest.
The Ducks fell behind 55-29 early in the fourth quarter but began to climb back into the game thanks Li who knocked down four straight baskets as a part of an 11-2 run to make the score 57-40. Stevens was unable to get any closer, however, and failed to score at least 50 points for just the second time this season.
