HOBOKEN, N.J. (January 5, 2020) – For the fourth time in the last five games, junior
Christina Li scored in double figures to lead the way for the Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team as they fell to No. 6/5 Amherst College 80-39 Sunday inside Canavan Arena.
The Mammoths quite literally lived up to their mascot name, using their size to do a ton of damage on the glass in the win. Amherst outrebounded the Ducks 53-20 in the contest and held a 21-0 edge in second chance points to move to 10-1 and hold Stevens to their lowest point total of the season.
Li finished the contest with 13 points and went 3 for 6 from 3-point-range to go along with a team-high six rebounds. In her last five games, Li has knocked down 16 of the 22 shots she has taken from downtown.
Holding a 13-10 edge in the first quarter, Amherst scored 10 consecutive points to bridge the first and second quarters and take a 13-point lead and led by double figures the rest of the way.
With the score 62-35 heading into the fourth quarter, the Mammoths outscored the Ducks 18-4 in the final stanza to grow the lead to 41.
Offensively, Amherst had three players score in double figures, led by a career-high 21 points from Madeline Eck.
Inside the Numbers
- The Ducks were held to 30.0 percent shooting from the floor while Amherst finished at 45.7 percent clip.
- The Mammoths also had an advantage in points in the paint (36-14) and points off turnovers (17-12).
- Stevens was able to force 13 turnovers in the contest while committing 15 in the loss.
- Coming off the bench, sophomore Jess Broad scored six points while sophomore Allie Moss and senior Emily Nunez each had five apiece.
- Ranked fourth in NCAA Division III in 3-point field goal percentage coming in, the Ducks went 5 for 16 from beyond-the-arc in the contest.
