No. 25 DeSales Uses Big Second Half to Defeat Women’s Basketball

Nunez and Porrett Both Set Career-Highs in Loss

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. (February 12, 2020) – Junior Emily Nunez set a new career-high with 12 points while sophomore Amber Porrett pulled down a career-best 11 rebounds as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team fell 70-50 against No. 25 DeSales Wednesday night at Billera Hall Gymnasium.

The Ducks held a 32-31 lead at the half but could not hold it as the Bulldogs outscored Stevens 39-18 in the second half to remain in first place in the MAC Freedom with a 10-1 conference record.

DeSales got production from a few different areas as three different players scored in double figures including Rylie Rittenhouse who had a game-high 17 points to go along with nine boards off the bench.

The Bulldogs went 15 for 34 from the floor in the second half while holding the Ducks to just 7 for 39 shooting.

Sophomore Jess Broad joined Nunez in double figures with 12 points to go along with 10 board for her third consecutive double-double. Additionally, all 11 Stevens players who played in the contest scored at least two points.

It was all DeSales early, as the Bulldogs scored 13 of the first 17 points of the contest to race out to a nine-point lead with 2:26 remaining in the first.

Stevens responded, however, with a 10-3 run capped off by a 3-point bucket from Nunez to cut the deficit to two at 16-14.

Nunez took over for the Ducks from that point on as she knocked down three consecutive shots from beyond the arc to give Stevens its first lead of the game at 24-23 as well as a 32-31 edge heading into the locker room.

Coming out of the break, the Ducks pushed their lead to three points thanks to a layup from Porrett to go up 36-33 with 7:58 left in the third quarter.

DeSales answered the bell by knocking down five straight shots as a part of an 11-0 run to re-take the lead they would not give back.

With 8:48 remaining in the contest, Stevens cut the deficit back to single digits at 53-44 but did not get any closer as the Bulldogs went on a 15-4 run over the next 7:36 of game action to put the contest away.
