Ducks Move Into Tie for Fourth and Final Playoff Spot

MADISON, N.J. (February 18, 2020) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team remained in the hunt for the final playoff spot in the MAC Freedom Tournament Tuesday with a 60-41 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham Campus at Ferguson Recreation Center.

Sophomore Jess Broad led the way offensively for the Ducks, nearly producing her fourth double-double in her last five games with 18 points and eight rebounds while going 9 for 14 from the floor. Stevens also got nine points apiece from Allie Moss and Danielle Cornetta.

With the win, Stevens moved into a tie for fourth place in the conference with Eastern University. The Ducks can now clinch the fourth and final seed in the MAC Freedom Tournament with a win over King's College combined with an Eastern loss against MAC Freedom regular season champion DeSales University Saturday.

The Devils, meanwhile, got a 15-point, 11-rebound double-double from Helen Ishmael as well as 10 points from Cayla Staggers in the defeat.
Leading 7-6 early in the contest, Stevens bridged the first and second quarters with 15-2 run highlighted by five points from Cornetta, four by Broad and four more from Vanessa Elliott to extend the lead to 14 with 8:34 remaining until halftime.

Stevens was able to keep FDU-Florham at arms-length for the remainder of the half and headed into the break with a 31-17 edge.

The Devils made a run to begin the second half, rattling off eight straight points after falling behind by 16 to get the deficit back under 10 for the first time since the first quarter.

After trading buckets for the next 5:35 of game action, Stevens led 45-34 with 6:50 remaining in the contest after a layup by Ishmael.

Broad took over from there, knocking down the Ducks the next four field goals as a part of an 11-0 run to extend the lead to 22 and put the contest away.

The Ducks outrebounded FDU-Florham 45-33 and led wire-to-wire in the victory.
