HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 23, 2021) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team scored on a pair of headers to defeat Wilkes University 2-0 Saturday in a MAC Freedom match at the DeBaun Athletic Complex.
Graduate student
Cristiano Hocken and sophomore
Fritz Kabeiseman each scored for the Ducks, who won their sixth straight over Wilkes. Senior
Aedan Boriotti matched a season high with seven saves as Stevens improved to 8-6-1 on the year and to 3-3 in conference play. The victory snapped Stevens' two-match losing streak.
Zach Tone made one save for Wilkes, who fell to 10-6 on the year. The Colonels, who opened MAC Freedom play with three straight wins, saw their league record fall to 3-3. The Ducks are tied with Wilkes and Lycoming with nine points, although Stevens now owns the head-to-head tiebreaker with the Colonels and will play Lycoming one week from today in the regular-season finale. Arcadia moved into first place with 15 points, although the Knights only have one league match remaining on the schedule. None of the MAC Freedom's five playoff berths have been secured.
The Ducks scored twice in an eight-minute span in the first half, with the ball not touching the ground in either sequence. In the 32nd minute, a free kick was awarded after a Wilkes foul. Junior
Bruno Andino sent a service towards the right corner of the six-yard box. Graduate student
Tyler Dressman redirected the ball towards the center of the box, where Hocken nimbly tucked the ball into the left corner of the goal for his fifth marker of the season.
Almost exactly eight minutes later, graduate student
John Caracappa drove a service towards the center of the 18 after the Ducks earned their third corner kick of the match. Kabeiseman sent the ball back to Caracappa who was midway between the 18 and the touch line. Caracappa darted around his defender and drove a service across the field to Dressman, who was along the back-left corner of the six. Dressman directed a header towards the center of the six, where Kabeiseman was well-positioned in front of a Wilkes defender to head the ball just under the crossbar for his second goal of the year. The two-assist performance for Dressman, brought his collegiate total to three, with all three helpers coming during the Durham, North Carolina native's tenure on Castle Point.
The Ducks nearly faced an early deficit, but Borioitti's efforts foiled Wilkes' scoring attempt in the fourth minute. After a turnover and a poorly timed challenge, the Colonels' Colin Schulmeister found himself alone in a dangerous area. The Wilkes midfielder attempted a left-footed shot, but Boriotti slid to his right and deflected the shot for his first save of the match.

- Wilkes used a 12-7 margin in the second half to finish the match with a 15-13 edge in shots, including a 7-3 edge in shots on target. The Colonels' Gabriel Nieves fired off a match-high six shots, while Kabeiseman led Stevens with three.
