Chu Garners Third MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Week Honor

Senior from Old Tappan, N.J., collects fifth conference weekly award of her career

ANNVILLE, Pa. (Oct. 25, 2021) – For the third time this season and sixth time in her career, Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball student-athlete Elizabeth Chu earned conference player of the week honors as she was named the MAC Freedom Defensive Player of Week.

Chu finished the week averaging 4.5 digs per set and produced double digit digs in all four matches to help the Ducks produce a 3-1 record.

"I'm so proud of Lizzie," head coach Brianna Jones said. "She has been a consistent defensive force for us all season and winning these awards is a sign of her work ethic she shows every day for us."
In the opening contest of the week, Chu racked up 15 digs while adding three assists and an ace in a quick 3-0 sweep of Lycoming College.

The Old Tappan, N.J., native then had 20 digs, two assists and an ace in the thrilling 3-2 win over Catholic University Friday night.

Chu closed the week with 18 digs and three aces in a three-set win over Montclair State University and added 10 more digs against No. 13 New York University.

In total, Chu produced 63 digs, five aces and nine assists on the week and extended her streak of consecutive matches with at least 10 digs to 23 straight matches.

This season, the 2019 MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Year ranks second in the conference with 4.95 digs per set.

Next Up: The Ducks return to the court Tuesday night when they travel to Center Valley, Pa., to take on DeSales University at 7:00 p.m. The winner of the contest will earn the #1 seed in the MAC Freedom Tournament and at least a share of the conference regular season title.
