ANNVILLE, Pa. (October 27, 2021) – The MAC Freedom released its Preseason Poll Wednesday and the Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team was picked second, the league office announced. The vote was conducted among the league's nine head coaches.
Stevens totaled 51 points to slot in behind DeSales, who received eight first-place votes to earn the preseason favorite distinction. DeSales enters the season as the three-time defending MAC Freedom champions. Misericordia totaled 46 points to slot in third place, with Arcadia (44) and Delaware Valley (32) rounding out the top-five.
The Ducks were one of two teams to opt out of MAC Freedom play, posting a 2-1 record in the abbreviated 2021 season. Stevens posted an 11-14 record two years ago, which included an 8-6 mark in conference play. The Ducks wrapped up their first season in the MAC Freedom by winning each of their last three contests and four of their final six.
Stevens opens the 2021-22 season on Nov. 10, when the Ducks travel to Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania to take on Susquehanna University. It is believed to be the first meeting between the programs and the contest marks the fourth time in the last five seasons that Stevens opens the season away from Canavan Arena.
Conference play gets underway on Dec. 1 when the Ducks head to Glenside, Pennsylvania to take on Arcadia in the first meeting between the teams since 2014.
