Moss Fills the Stat Sheet as Women’s Basketball Defeats Montclair State 69-54 for Fourth Straight Win

Ducks overtake Montclair State in the fourth quarter for four straight win

HOBOKEN, N.J. (November 20, 2021)  – Senior Allie Moss stuffed the stat sheet with 12 points, seven rebounds, and five assists, as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team defeated Montclair State University 69-54 Saturday in a non-conference matchup at Canavan Arena.

Jess Broad recorded a game-high 18 points and Elissa Nsenkyire netted a career-high 16 points in her first collegiate start for the Ducks, who won their fourth straight game to move to 4-1. The four-game winning streak is the longest for the program since the Ducks won four straight to wrap up the 2018-19 regular season.

Kendall Hodges had 16 points and seven rebounds for Montclair State, who dropped to 1-2. The Ducks' victory is the first over their in-state foe since Nov. 29, 2008, and is believed to be the first-ever win for the Ducks over the Red Hawks in Hoboken.

After the Ducks overcame a halftime deficit, a game-changing 14-0 run down the stretch put the game out of reach. Moss fed Broad for a long jumper to spark the run and three different Ducks scored as the Ducks held Montclair State without a field goal for 4:49 in breaking the game open. While the Ducks were taking care of things on the offensive end, a smothering defense held Montclair State to just 3 for 12 (25%) from the floor in the final quarter.

After going 9 for 10 from the line to seal the victory over The College of New Jersey, Moss went 7 for 8 from the line in the final period and ranks fourth in the MAC Freedom with an 86.4 shooting percentage from the line. The Raleigh, North Carolina native is a career 83.3 percent free-throw shooter. Moss also dished out a season-high five assists against just one turnover and nabbed a pair of steals.

Trailing at halftime, the Ducks seized control of the game in the third quarter, outscoring Montclair State 23-13. Six different Ducks scored at least two points, and senior Keeley Coval drained a key three to help Stevens leapfrog the Ref Hawks.

Pivotal Point
  • With the teams tied at 45, Stevens went on a 6-0 run in the final minute of the third quarter.
  • Senior Amber Porrett stripped Rylee Mulligan and the Ducks were able to convert on the other end, with junior Danielle Cornetta scoring on a layup.
  • Broad hit a pair of free throws on the Ducks' next possession and capped the run with a fast-break layup.
  • Nsenkyire assisted on both baskets in the stretch.
  • The Ducks would not relinquish its newly-found lead.
