In The Giving Mood! Women’s Basketball Records 25 Assists on 32 Baskets to Down Hunter 72-40

Broad scores 20 for the Ducks, who won their fifth straight

HOBOKEN, N.J. (November 22, 2021)  – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team was in the giving mood Monday even if Thanksgiving isn't until Thursday.

Eleven different student-athletes had at least one assist as the Ducks recorded 25 assists on 32 baskets to enter the holiday break with a 72-40 victory over Hunter College in a non-conference contest at Canavan Arena.

Named MAC Freedom Player of the Week earlier in the day, senior Jess Broad recorded a game-high 20 points on an efficient 10 of 13 shooting and senior Keeley Coval came off the bench to add 12 for the Ducks, who won for the fifth straight time in moving to 5-1.

Broad scored 10 points in the first half and then added 10 more in the second on a perfect 5 for 5 shooting to finish as the team's leading scorer for the fifth team this season. The Marlboro, New Jersey native also led the team with a career-high matching six assists.

Erin Cosio came off the bench to lead Hunter with eight points. The Ducks snapped Hunter's two-game winning streak as the Hawks saw their record even at 2-2. Stevens has won all four meetings between the programs.

A dominating defensive effort saw the Ducks turn Hunter over 24 times. The Ducks were able to hold the Hawks to single digits in each of the first three quarters in opening up as much as a 37-point lead. Broad keyed the transition play with five steals and sophomore Elissa Nsenkyire added three as Stevens often turned steals into points, finishing with 32 points off turnovers.

Conversely, Stevens was efficient in its offense, shooting 43% from the floor in the first half in building a 19-point lead at halftime. The Ducks' hot shooting extended into the third quarter as the Ducks made 9 of their 15 shots (60%) from the floor in the frame to outscore Hunter 21-5.

With a comfortable lead, the Ducks were able to balance their offensive attack, with 11 different student-athletes scoring at least two points.
