Women’s Tennis Downs Arcadia 8-1 for Third Straight Win

Stevens moves to 3-0 with strong performance

GLENSIDE Pa. (April 10, 2021)  – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team swept all three doubles flights en route to an 8-1 victory over Arcadia University Saturday in a MAC Freedom match at the Weiss Courts.

After claiming victory in the three doubles matches via identical 8-2 scores, Stevens captured five of the six singles flights to post its second straight 8-1 victory. With the win, Stevens moved to 3-0 on the year, while also earning the program's first-ever MAC Freedom win. The Ducks are one of three conference teams yet to suffer a defeat this season. Arcadia saw its overall record even at 2-2, while the Knights dropped to 0-1 in league play.

"We came out strong in doubles and carried the momentum into singles play," said head coach Arik Zeevy. "With two matches per week for the rest of the season, we need to keep moving forward and are already looking ahead to Wednesday's home match versus Misericordia. We are all excited and grateful for the opportunity to play at home Wednesday in front of fans for the first time in two years."

The Ducks' top pairing of junior Agatha Malinowski and Gabriella Tantillo picked up their second victory of the season at No. 1 doubles to get the match underway. Sophomore Audrey Heaberlin and senior Makenna Sargis remained perfect in 2021 with a win at second doubles before the tandem of junior Alexis Fuda and senior Chelsea Braithwaite finished the doubles sweep in the third slot.

After getting scoring underway in doubles play, Malinowski also scored the first singles decision with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Tess Weber at No. 1 singles. Heaberlin clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-1 decision over Julia Paraboschi at second singles for her third singles win of the season.

Marchisio and Tantillo earned decisive victories at sixth and fifth singles, with Sargis closing out the day with a thrilling 6-2, 7-6 victory at fourth singles. Marchisio has lost just five points over three singles matches in her second campaign on Castle Point.

Up Next: Women's Tennis welcomes Misericordia University to campus on Apr. 14 for a MAC Freedom matchup. The action gets underway at 3 p.m. It will be the first meeting between the programs.
