WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (April 20, 2021) – For the second time this season, the Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team earned a perfect 9-0 victory as they traveled on the road and took down Lycoming College Tuesday, not dropping a single set in the process.
With the win, Stevens moved to 4-0 on the year and 2-0 in MAC Freedom play to join Wilkes University one of only two unbeaten teams in the conference this season. The Warriors, meanwhile, fell to 0-6 and 0-3 in the MAC Freedom.
"It was nice to get back on the match court today and get a conference win," head coach
Arik Zeevy said. "We still have a few things to improve and look forward to the challenge of DeSales and Misericordia this weekend."
The Ducks took home all three doubles points with
Gabriella Tantillo and
Agatha Malinowski taking home an 8-2 win at flight one,
Alexis Fuda and
Juliette Marchisio winning 8-5 on line two and
Audrey Heaberlin and
Makenna Sargis combining to win on line three.
With the win at flight two, Fuda has now teamed up with three different partners and is 4-0 at doubles this season.
Malinowski started things off at flight one with a 6-2, 6-0 straight sets victory as she remained perfect on the season, moving to 4-0. Her four victories at line one currently ranks second in the MAC Freedom.
It was Heaberlin who grabbed the win on line two, taking a 6-0, 6-3 win to also remain unbeaten. In four singles matches this season, Heaberlin has outscored opponents 48-13 overall and grabbed her first perfect 6-0 set win of the year.
At flight three, Stevens got another 6-0, 6-3 victory, this time from Fuda as she moved to 3-1 in singles play this season.
Both flights four and five for the Ducks were won in impressive sweeping fashion as Sargis and Tantillo both picked up 6-0, 6-0 wins, respectively to push the score to 8-0. Both Sargis and Tantillo kept their records unblemished on the year, moving to 4-0.
Marchisio closed out the perfect performance for the Ducks on line six as she picked up a victory due to a withdrawal from the Warriors.
