WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (April 28, 2021) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team remained perfect in 2021 with a 9-0 victory over King's (Pa.) College Wednesday in a MAC Freedom matchup played at Kirby Park.
With the victory. Stevens moved to 7-0 on the year and to 4-0 in conference play to extend the program's conference regular season winning streak to 10. The Ducks have won each of their matches by identical 9-0 scores. Four of the Ducks' seven wins have come away from Hoboken.
"I'm proud of how our student-athletes continue to dominate on the road while competing with class," said head coach
Steve Gachko. "We are excited to close out the regular season against Wilkes on Saturday and head into postseason play."
King's saw its record fall to 4-4 on the year and to 3-3 in the MAC Freedom. It is believed to be the first meeting between the programs.
The Ducks opened the match with a doubles sweep, taking each of the three flights via identical 8-0 scores. Seniors
Keegan Morris and
Gabriel Sifuentes scored the first point of the day at second doubles, defeating Nick Harth and Joe Lennon. The junior duo of
Garrett Kincaid and
Mark Pabalan earned their seventh win at third doubles, and junior
Marc Feliu and first-year
Aashi Kulakarni closed out the doubles sweep with their seventh win at first doubles.
In singles play, the Ducks dropped just nine set points to the Monarchs. Morris picked up the first individual point of the match with a 6-0, 6-2 victory in the second flight. First-year
Adam Borowczak clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Nick Holland at fifth singles. Borowczak is one of just three Ducks to have played each of their matches in the same singles position.
Feliu picked up his fourth win of the year in the top singles flight, winning 6-1, 6-0 over Logan Gregory. Sifuentes matched Feliu's score in the fourth singles flight, while junior
Brian Li earned his sixth straight win via the same score at fourth singles. Junior
Brian Li took a 6-0, 6-2 decision in the sixth position. Kulakarni closed out the day with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Jason Homschek for his fourth win at third singles.
Up Next: Men's Tennis returns to Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania to take on Wilkes University in the final match of the regular season on May 1. It will be the first meeting between the teams since Apr. 22, 2018. The teams have formally met twice in the 2000's, but Saturday's meeting will be the first in Pennsylvania.
