ANNVILLE, Pa. (May 10, 2021) – After getting out of a jam in relief and ultimately picking up the win on the mound in game one of the MAC Freedom Semifinals against Misericordia University, sophomore
Anthony Pron earned MAC Freedom Pitcher of the Week honors for his efforts, the league announced Monday.
It is the second weekly award for Pron this season after he nabbed the accolade back on April 19, 2021 as the Ducks have now won Pitcher of the Week honors four separate times this season.
Coming out of the bullpen with a runner in scoring position and one out in the bottom of the eighth with Stevens down 5-4, Pron was able to get out of danger in the inning as he got the Bulldogs' two-hole hitter Ethan Carmack to line into a double play to end the threat.
Then after the Ducks took the lead on
Johnny Albrecht's two-run homer in the top of the ninth, Pron slammed the door in the bottom half as he got two of the three outs via strikeout to earn the win on the bump. In total, Pron allowed just one hit over 1 2/3 innings while punching out a pair.
This season, the sophomore righty has posted a 2-0 record with a 1.74 earned run average while leading the conference with seven saves.
Stevens will look to keep its season alive and punch a ticket to the MAC Freedom Championship series Monday night as they take on DeSales in a winner-take-all contest in Hoboken at 6:00 p.m.
