Baseball Drops MAC Freedom Doubleheader at Misericordia

Dallas, Pa. – The Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team dropped both ends of a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom doubleheader at Misericordia Sunday, falling by finals of 6-4 and 7-3.

How It Happened – Game 1
The Ducks put a run on the board in the first, and another in the third. Chip Krese scored in the first after a leadoff double, eventually scoring on a Cougars' error. Griffin Zitko scored in the third after a leadoff single, eventually scoring on an Adam Kobayashi squeeze bunt.

After the Cougars scored twice in the third and twice more in the fourth, Jackson Wein followed a Zitko double with a game-tying two-run homer in the fifth.

The game remained tied into the bottom of the sixth when the Cougars went back in front with another two-run inning. In the seventh, the Ducks brought the tying run to the plate with one out, but back-to-back groundouts ended the game.

How It Happened – Game 2
Misericordia led 3-0 through five, but Stevens (11-11, 3-6 MACF)rallied for two in the sixth. With Wein on third and Zitko on first with one out, each runner moved up 90 feet on a wild pitch, with Zitko scoring the Ducks' first run of the game. Two batters later, Kobayashi made it a one-run game, singling home Zitko.

The Ducks answered a Misericordia run in the bottom of the sixth with one in the top of the seventh – Wein singling home Vinnie Stigliano after Stigliano doubled – but the Cougars tacked on a trio of insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth for the final margin of the game.
