ANNVILLE, Pa. (May 10, 2021) – After helping the Stevens Institute of Technology softball program advance to the MAC Freedom Championship series for the first time in program history, junior
Meg Halloran was named the MAC Freedom Player of the Week for her stellar efforts on the field, the league announced Monday.
Halloran finished the weekend series against Arcadia 4 for 7 with two doubles, two RBIs, two runs scored and three stolen bases to join senior
Jessie Masur, graduate student
Samantha Schattin and first-year
Jessica Guerrero as the fourth Stevens softball student-athlete to earn the award this season.
With her three steals on the weekend, Halloran now has 16 stolen bases this season which sets a new single-season program record, breaking the mark of 15 set by Schattin in 2019. Additionally, her stolen base in the decisive game three against the Knights helped Stevens break the team record for thieveries with 56 this season, topping the previous record of 55 set in 2014 in 16 less games.
"Meg has a natural instinct on the bases," head coach
Emily Kaczmarek said. "If she can trust it just a little bit more, she can be even more dangerous on the bases for us."
In the first contest of the weekend, Halloran posted a 1 for 2 effort with a stolen base and a sacrifice bunt to help the Ducks grab a 2-1 victory.
Then in game two, Halloran finished 1 for 3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored while swiping yet another bag to tie the single-season record at the time.
Halloran had her best effort at the plate in the decisive game three, going 2 for 2 with a double, an RBI, a run scored and a walk while also stealing a base.
This season, Halloran is second in the MAC Freedom with a .516 batting average behind only Schattin while her 16 steals lead the conference.
The Ducks and Halloran return to the diamond for the MAC Freedom Championship series Friday against Misericordia University with a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m. Live stats and video will be available on StevensDucks.com.
