GREENWOOD, Ind. (July 1, 2021) – For the first time since the 2017 season, the Stevens Institute of Technology baseball program placed a student-athlete on the College of Sports Information Director's of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team as junior
Ryan Wall and senior
Nate Zuckerman both earned the award for the first time in their respective careers, the association announced Thursday.
The duo is the first since Danny Poidomani and Zeph Walters both earned the award following the 2017 season and will now look to become the first Academic All-America selections for the baseball program since Matt Glassman in 2012.
Wall, a Second Team ABCA All-Region and First Team All-MAC Freedom selection, earned the award after posting a 3.77 grade-point average while majoring in business and technology. Wall hit .333 this season and led the Ducks in doubles (9), RBIs (32) and total bases (65). He hit safely in 23 of the 34 games he appeared in with 11 multi-hit games on the year.
Zuckerman, meanwhile, earned the award thanks to an impressive 3.79 GPA while also majoring in business and technology. The First Team All-MAC Freedom honoree hit .339 with an impressive .437 on-base percentage on the season. Zuckerman started his senior season with a bang, going 13 for 20 with 10 RBIs in his first six games of the year and ended up collecting multiple hits 11 times this season.
The duo helped the Ducks to the MAC Freedom Championship series for the first time in program history as Stevens finished just one win shy of making their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2014.
First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Academic All-America ballot, the results of which will be announced in the coming weeks. Stevens is located in Division III's Second District, which encompasses schools from Connecticut, Washington, D.C., Delaware, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Vermont and West Virginia. None of Division III's eight geographic districts contain a Second Team.
