Field Hockey Pitches Shutout Against RPI

Ducks register first shutout since 2019

HOBOKEN, N.J. (Sept. 18, 2021) – The Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team scored less than four minutes into the game and added another in the fourth quarter while playing stifling defense to grab their first shutout of the season with a 2-0 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Saturday at the DeBaun Athletic Complex.

Seniors Kila Eadie and Aryana Muscara both scored goals on penalty corners while also helping the Ducks register their first clean sheet since a 7-0 win over Drew University on Sept. 25, 2019. Stevens is now 3-2 on the young season with the win while RPI fell to 1-4.

The Ducks started the scoring just three minutes into the contest when Eadie collected a pass off a corner and blasted a shot into the back of the cage for her third goal of the season.

The score remained 1-0 in favor of Stevens for most of the contest until Muscara's goal early in the fourth.

With just 12 minutes left in the match, the Ducks connected on what was their 10th and final corner of the game. Fifth-year Allison Buffenbarger collected the first pass and fired a shot at goal that Muscara redirected to the right of the goalkeeper and into the net.

Both Eadie and Muscara now join first-year Emily Smart as multi-goal scorers for the Ducks this season while Buffenbarger becomes the first Stevens student-athlete with multiple assists.

In goal, senior Emily Franco made four saves and produced her fourth career shutout, the first since Sept. 18, 2019.
