CENTER VALLEY, Pa. (October 19, 2022)  – Senior
Emerson Kuzemka and graduate student
Sean Masur each scored twice to lead No. 4 Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer over DeSales University 5-1 Wednesday in a MAC Freedom matchup at the Bulldogs' Soccer Field.
Sophomore
Luca Campbell also found the back of the net for the Ducks, who improved to 12-0-2 on the year and to 5-0-1 in conference play. The victory was the fourth straight for Stevens, who leads the MAC Freedom with 16 points.
Tristen Castellani had a goal for DeSales, who dropped to 5-8-2 on the year and to 0-4-1 in the MAC Freedom. The Ducks have won two of the three all-time meetings between the programs, although this was the first time the teams met in Pennsylvania. The Bulldogs have lost two straight.
Senior
Justin Cross made two saves to earn the win in goal. Castellani's marker in the 38th minute snapped Cross' scoreless streak at an impressive 587:54. The Kendall Park, New Jersey native entered play ranked fourth in the nation with a 0.339 goals-against average. First-year
Anthony Troyan played the final five minutes and did not face a shot. Nathan Hatzfield made three saves in suffering the loss for DeSales.
After each side scored in the first half, the Ducks broke the match open with four answered goals over the final 45 minutes to earn the victory. Kuzemka began the second-half barrage in the 49th minute. Junior
Dylan Maund drove a ball towards the 18. The ball bounced once, where it was received by senior
Bruno Andino just outside the 18 and headed over to Kuzemka. The Clifton, Virginia native collected the ball, darted around a defender and sent a crossing shot towards the goal. Hatzfield attempted to stop the scoring try, but the ball glanced off his fingers and into the left corner of the goal for his second marker of the day to complete his first career brace.
Masur scored twice in an eight-minute span to essentially put the contest out of reach. In the 55th minute, graduate student
Adam Silva sent a ball into a dangerous area. A DeSales defender attempted to break the play up, but misplayed the ball. Masur was in a perfect position to receive the misplay and delivered a right-footed shot that tucked neatly inside the left post for his third of the year. He completed his second career brace in the 63rd minute, running unmarked through the right side of the 18 to convert a well-placed pass from Andino.
Campbell headed in a Silva cross in the 75th minute to close out the scoring. The Ducks' five-goal output marked a season high.
As the Ducks' offense picked up in the second half, so did the defense, holding DeSales to just a single shot. The Ducks also held the Bulldogs without a corner over the final 45 minutes.
Unsung Heroes
	- The Ducks' strong play in its own end continued as the defensive group held Owen Maher, DeSales' leading scorer, without a shot.
- As a team, Stevens is tied for fifth in the country in team goals-against average (0.357).
Inside the Numbers
	- Stevens finished with a 15-8 edge in shots, that included an 8-1 edge in the second half. Of the Ducks' 15 tries, eight were on target.
- The Ducks totaled nine corners, while only allowing two to the Bulldogs. The two corners marked a season-low for DeSales.
- Each side committed 11 fouls and DeSales was shown three cautions.
- Andino finished with two assists and leads the team with 16 points. His 1.23 points per game ranks third in the MAC Freedom.
- Sophomore Emerico Vespucci joined Silva and Maund in dishing out an assist. The helper was the first of Maund's career.
