HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 7, 2022) – The Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling team announced its 2022-23 competition schedule Friday.
Coming off one of the most successful seasons in program history, the 2022-23 slate features eight duals and nine tournaments in the regular season, including six inside Canavan Arena, where the Ducks are 26-3 under ninth-year head coach
Joe Favia. The six home duals, which are tied for the most events inside Canavan Arena since the 2011-12 season, will be contested in front of fans for the first time since 2020.
The season kicks off with the annual Wrestle-Offs, which will be held on Oct. 29 in the new University Center Complex.
The Ned McGinley Invitational on Nov. 5 marks the first tournament of the season, and King's College's annual event is then followed by the prestigious Princeton University Open one day later.
The first dual of the season sees Ithaca College host the Ducks at St. Peter's Prep in Jersey City on Nov. 11. Stevens has won two of the last three duals between the programs.
The Roger Williams University Invitational takes place on Nov. 12 before the Ducks head west for a dual with Wisconsin-LaCrosse and the Concordia University Wisconsin Open. The meeting with the defending Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champions on Nov. 18 will be the first-ever meeting between the programs, while the Ducks will be competing at the CUW Open for the second straight year.
York's annual New Standard Corporation Invitational takes place on Dec. 2-3 and a triangular with Messiah and Delaware Valley in Canavan Arena on Dec. 10 leads the Ducks into the winter break. The Ducks topped the Falcons 30-9 one season ago and Messiah's trip to Hoboken will be the first since 2005.
The Budd Whithill Duals on Jan. 13 opens the second half of the schedule. Stevens will be competing at the annual event, which is named after Budd Whithill, who spent 37 years as head coach of three different sports at Lycoming, for the first time.
Stevens takes to the mats in York, Pennsylvania on Jan. 21 in search of its third straight Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championship. The Ducks, who have won seven straight conference crowns in a stretch that predates the program's tenure in the MAC, have finished ahead of Messiah in each of the last two conference championships.
Area rival NYU comes to Hoboken on Jan. 27. The Duck have topped the Violets in each of the last two meetings. The Johnson & Wales University Open follows one day later, while the Messiah Open on Feb. 4 marks the penultimate tournament of the regular season.
Stevens hosts The College of New Jersey and Averett for a triangular on Feb. 4 and a dual with York on Feb. 11 marks the final dual of the season. The Ducks edged the Lions 24-12 one season ago, while also topping the Spartans 30-18 in the Keystone State.
The Futures Tournament on Feb. 19 leads the Ducks into the postseason, where the team begins its quest for a third straight Southeast Regional Championship on Feb. 24.
The NCAA Division III National Championships returns to Roanoke, Virginia on Mar. 10. Stevens finished fifth at nationals one season ago -the second-best finish in program history - with alumnus
Brett Kaliner earning the Ducks' first national championship, topping the field at 149. Returning student-athletes
Kyle Slendorn and
