WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (Oct. 8, 2022) – Senior
Bruno Andino scored the game-winner in the 83rd minute to lift the No. 3 Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team over MAC Freedom opponent Wilkes University by a score of 1-0, Saturday afternoon. With the road win, the Ducks remain undefeated on the season.
The scoreless first half was competitive and both sides battled back and forth. The Ducks outshot the Colonels by a total of 7-4 in the first 45 minutes, but Wilkes had the advantage in corner kick opportunities by a total of 2 to 1. Senior goalkeeper
Justin Cross made one save in the half and Stevens went into the break tied 0-0.
The game continued to go back and forth in the second half. Stevens took seven shots in the period and Wilkes took six. Both teams successfully held the other at bay until Andino struck with just under eight minutes remaining in the game. He picked up the ball just outside the box and fired a rocket into the top left corner of the net from 25 yards away. The goal proved to be the difference in the game and Stevens took home the 1-0 victory.
The Ducks improved to 9-0-2 overall and 2-0-1 in conference play with the victory. The Colonels fell to 4-7-1 over and 1-2 in MAC Freedom action.
