AUSTIN, Texas (December 6, 2022)  – Graduate student Rachel Rouse of the Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team was named a Third Team Academic All-American by the College Sports Communicators, the organization announced Tuesday.

The prestigious accolade is the first for Rouse and the first for the women's soccer team since 2019. Rouse becomes the fourth women's soccer player and the 44th student-athlete in department history to earn the honor, which recognizes elite performances in both the field of competition and in the classroom.

"An outstanding achievement for both Rachel and our program," head coach Jeff Parker said. "Rachel was immediately such a great fit for our program and we were so fortunate to have her join us this past August. She had a positive impact in our locker room, the training environment and on game day from day one. Proud to call her part of us and looking forward to continuing to witness her progress."

"We are tremendously fortunate that we are part of an institution and athletic department where our student-athletes can strive to achieve the highest levels anywhere both in the classroom and on the field of play," Parker continued. "We are proud of the environment they have created that annually places their achievements amongst the nation's best. Our top resource is the quality of the people we are able to call our alums, teammates and potential student athletes."

On the field, Rouse set new career highs in all offensive statistics, finishing with nine goals and nine assists to total a team-leading 27 points. The First Team All-MAC Freedom selection and Second Team All-Region IV honoree ranked ninth in the conference in goals and tied for third in assists to finish sixth in points. Rouse finished with 10 points across her final three contests and was named the United Soccer Coaches Division III Player of the Week on Oct. 12, becoming the first player in program history to earn the national accolade.

In the classroom, Rouse achieved a 3.94 cumulative grade-point average as an undergraduate at UNC Greensboro, graduating with a degree in economics with minors in mathematics and accounting. She was also an active member of the Beta Alpha Psi (financial information) and Beta Gamma Sigma (business) honor societies. At Stevens, Rouse is working towards her master of science degree in business intelligence and analytics.

In addition to her time in the classroom and on the soccer pitch, Rouse is also an honors intern with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
