YORK, Pa. (February 12, 2022)  – No. 20 Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling team won six of the 10 bouts to defeat York College of Pennsylvania 30-18 Saturday in a non-conference dual at Wolf Gymnasium.

Junior Kyle Slendorn, graduate student Brett Kaliner, first-year Harrison Hinojosa, juniors Stefan Major and Frank Medina, along with first-year Joseph Russell, all picked up victories for the Ducks, who won their sixth straight dual to finish the dual season with a 6-4 record. The Ducks have posted a winning dual record in eight of the last nine seasons. Four of the Ducks' six wins came via fall.

"It was great to end the dual season with a win and even better when four of the team's six wins came by way of fall," said head coach Joe Favia. "But there were too many self-inflicted errors in the other matches. That's what stuck with, and what will motivate us, into the postseason."

York won four of the 10 bouts, including a pair of pins, in falling to 5-9. The Ducks have split four all-time meetings with the Spartans.

York opened the dual with a pair of victories, with Jared Kuhns defeating junior Akhil Vega via a 9-5 score. The Spartans increased their lead at 133, where #5 Dalton Rodriguez pinned sophomore Luke Hoerle with just 16 seconds left in the match.

The Ducks got on the board at 141, where Slendorn, ranked fifth in the weight class, pinned Tyson McDuffy in the second period. The Howell, New Jersey native opened a 6-2 lead with three takedowns in the opening period and his takedown midway through the second led to the fall at 4:29. Slendorn ranks third on the team with 22 wins.

Top-ranked Brett Kaliner made it two pins in as many matches, stopping Sammy Mazzella in the first period. Kaliner scored four takedowns and an escape and was leading 9-5 at the time of the fall. The West Chester, Pennsylvania native moved to 21-0 and 17 of his victories have come with bonus points.

In a top-10 matchup at 157, #7 Eric Hutchinson defeated #8 Hunter Gutierrez 5-0, scoring three of his five points in the second period. Gutierrez continues to lead the team with 26 victories.

Stevens reeled off three straight wins in the middle weights to secure the dual. Hinojosa began the sequence with a 5-3 decision over Timmy Sparks. Hinojosa scored two takedowns in the opening period to jump in front and then scored an escape in the final period to secure his 16th win of the year.

Major and Media followed with consecutive first-period pins to push Stevens' lead to 27-12. The victories pushed Major's record to 25-6 and Medina's to 23-9. Medina ranks second on the team with 13 pins.

York would pick up its final win of the day with a pin at 197, before Russell scored his sixth win with a 10-4 decision over Brock Hofler at heavyweight. Holding a 4-2 lead entering the final period, Russell scored two takedowns and an escape point to pad his lead. The Newburgh, New York native added the riding-time point to provide the final margin and secure his sixth win of the year.

Junior Pasquale Vizzoni joined sophomore Nick Boggiano and first-year Chris Stathopoulos in earning wins in extra countable matches. All three victories came with bonus points. Vizzoni scored a commanding 18-3 tech fall over Blake Shalbert, while Boggiano and Stathopoulos each recorded first-period pins.
