GETTYSBURG, Pa. (February 7, 2022) – Senior
Jess Broad became the 14th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points, but the Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team fell to Gettysburg College 72-60 Monday in a non-conference matchup at Bream Gymnasium.
Sophomore
Elissa Nsenkyire scored nine points and junior
Danielle Cornetta added eight for the Ducks, who fell to 15-4. The contest closed out the Ducks' non-conference schedule.
Carly Rice had 28 points and eight rebounds and Hannah Sauve added 11 and three for the Bullets, who won their 12th straight game to move to 19-2. The Ducks were just the third team this season to score 60 points against Gettysburg.
With the Ducks down four, Cornetta kept a Stevens possession alive with one of her two offensive rebounds. Senior
Allie Moss worked around a screen and found a wide-open Broad at the top of the key. The Marlboro, New Jersey native calmly took a 3-pointer and sank the basket to cross the 1,000-point threshold. Broad is the first Duck to reach the milestone since alumna Megan Brown reached the mark nearly three years ago (Feb. 9, 2018). Broad's 18-point performance was her 15th double-digit scoring effort of the season.
After a tight first quarter that featured six lead changes, Gettysburg held a slim four-point lead at the end of the period. The tight play continued in the second stanza, with each side finishing with 21 points as the home team led 38-34 lead at the intermission.
Faced with a halftime deficit, the Ducks opened the third quarter on fire, connecting on eight of their first 10 shots to take a 54-53 lead. Broad opened the frame with a jump shot and senior

Vanessa Elliott added a free throw and Broad sank another jumper as the Ducks scored on each of their first four possessions. Cornetta had back-to-back layups to tie the contest at 51.
After Nsenkyire put the Ducks in front with a long three, Gettysburg closed the third quarter on a 6-0 run and held the Ducks without a field goal for the first four minutes of the final period.
Pivotal Point
- Nsenkyire's second three of the game gave Stevens a 54-53 lead with just under two minutes left in third quarter.
- Rice put Gettysburg back in front with a jumper. The Bullets would score the final seven points of the quarter to open a six-point lead.
Inside the Numbers
- Stevens finished 24 for 62 from the floor (38.7%), the second-highest total against the Bullets this season. Counted among the team's total was an 8 for 15 performance (53.3%) in the third quarter.
- Gettysburg finished with a 39-31 advantage on the boards, including a 12-10 edge on the offensive glass. The Bullets' turned their advantage on the offensive glass into a 12-11 edge in second-chance points.
- Nsenkyire went a perfect 2 for 2 from behind the arc. She also led the team in plus/minus.
- Broad led the team with four steals.
- Each team scored two fast-break points.
- The Ducks finished with an 18-13 edge in points off the bench.
Unsung Hero
- Douglas led the Ducks with seven rebounds and made four of her five field-goal attempts to finish with eight points. The Branchburg, New Jersey native also recorded both of the Ducks' blocked shots.
