MADISON, N.J. (March 23, 2022) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team swept all three doubles flights en route to an 8-1 victory over Drew University Wednesday in a non-conference match at the Simon Forum.
First-year
Emma Eguia won a wild, three-set thriller at fifth singles as the Ducks also captured five of the six singles flights in winning their first contest of the spring season in moving to 2-3 on the year.
Sanne Bloemendaal claimed a straight-set victory at No. 3 singles to account for the lone victory of the day for the Rangers, who fell to 2-8 on the year. Stevens has claimed all 13 meetings between the programs since 2005.
"Great to get our first team win in the spring season today," head coach
Arik Zeevy said. "Everyone played good tennis in spurts. We know what we need to work on heading back to the practice court this week. Match ball goes to first-year
Emma Eguia, for saving three matching points en route to her three-set win at fifth singles."
Senior
Agatha Malinowski and junior
Audrey Heaberlin opened with an 8-7 victory over Melina Christodoulou and Mary Kalorin at first doubles, capturing their third win of the season. First-year
Isabella Dona and senior
Alexis Fuda scored an 8-6 win at second doubles and junior
Juliette Marchisio and sophomore Polina Odinsteva wrapped up the doubles sweep with an 8-3 win at line three.
Dona, Heaberlin and Malinowski each posted straight-set wins in their respective singles flights to clinch the match and Marchisio topped Kate Gangi via an 8-4 decision to account for the Ducks' final margin of victory. However, Eguia posted a 13-11 score over Danielle Delrosso in the third set to post her second career victory and first in line five.
