SWARTHMORE, PA. (March 26, 2022) – The Stevens Institute of Technology Men's Tennis team fell to No. 29 Swarthmore College on the road by a score of 7-2, Saturday afternoon in a non-conference matchup at the Faulkner Tennis Courts.
With the setback, the Ducks fell to 2-4 on the season, while the Garnet improved to 9-3. The teams have split four meetings since 2016.
"I was very pleased of how we started off in doubles, taking a 2-1 lead over a very tough Swarthmore team," said head coach
Steve Gachko. "Our doubles continue to improve and should give us momentum heading into singles. Unfortunately, Swarthmore was the tougher team in singles today. After today, our guys are aware of what is needed to compete against the top teams in the country and how hard we need to work to earn five points. We are excited to take what we learned today into practice next week and continue to grow together as a team.
Stevens went 2-1 in doubles play, earning wins at the first and third doubles positions. Graduate student
Keegan Morris and first-year Olaf Persson fought to an 8-6 win at line one, while the tandem of sophomore
Aashi Kulakarni and first-year
Sebastian Wroe earned an 8-6 victory in line three. The Garnet would earn a key point at second doubles, with Charlie Force and Rushil Patel topping senior
Marc Feliu and first-year
Troy Zhang via an 8-5 decision.Â
Unfortunately, Swarthmore took control of the match in the singles flights, winning all six matches. First-year
Vivek Harinarayan dropped a hard-fought 6-1, 7-6 decision at third singles and Morris and first-year
Matt Luzzi fell by identical 7-5, 6-1 scores in the first and fifth positions.
