Men’s Tennis Blanks King’s to Open MAC Freedom Play

Ducks win 12th straight conference victory with sweep of King's

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (April 2, 2022)  – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team dropped just three points in doubles play en route to a 9-0 victory over King's College Saturday in a MAC Freedom match at Kirby Park.

Sophomore Andrew He was the lone Duck to collect multiple victories, posting a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Patrick Pech at third singles after teaming with sophomore Aashi Kulakarni to score an 8-1 victory at third doubles as Stevens improved to 3-4 on the year and to 1-0 in conference play, The Ducks have won their last 12 conference matches and have been victorious in three straight conference openers.

King's totaled three points in doubles play and 16 in singles in falling to 3-6 on the year and 0-1 in conference play. The Ducks have won both all-time meetings between the teams.

"We are fortunate to be able to get the whole lineup in action and contribute to our dominant 9-0 win today," head coach Steve Gachko said. "Special shoutout to Brian Li, getting a singles win on his birthday!"

Alongside Kulakarni and He's victory in the third position, senior Marc Feliu and first-year Troy Zhang posted an 8-2 win at first doubles to give the Ducks a 2-0 lead. First-year Vivek Harinarayan and classmate Olof Persson posted an 8-0 victory at third doubles to complete the sweep. The victories at lines two and three came in the first match as partners for both pairings and marked the first career doubles win for Harinarayan.

The Ducks' strong play continued in the singles' flights, with each line producing a straight-set victory. First-year Matt Luzzi posted a 6-3, 6-1 victory at line one, while junior Philip Szkudlarski scored his second win of the year with a 6-0, 6-1 win in the second position. He moved to 6-0 on the year with his win at line three, while senior Eloi Pradier spun a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Aidan Temple at line four. Graduate student Mark Pabalan scored his singles win of the year (6-2, 6-0) at line five, while senior Brian Li closed out the victory with 6-2, 6-4 win at sixth singles.

"We have a busy week ahead of us and are excited to get back to work Monday," Gachko added.
