MIDDLEBURY, Vt. (May 12, 2022) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team defeated Eastern Nazarene College by a score of 5-0 in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday, May 12. It was the Ducks first NCAA Tournament win since 2019.
It was Stevens' 12th-straight win and the team improved to 14-4 on the season. The Lions concluded their season with an 11-6 overall record.
Stevens swept the doubles matches and took an early lead to start the match. Senior
Marc Feliu and first-year
Troy Zhang won the first match of the day at second doubles by a score of 8-1. Sophomore
Aashi Kulakarni and first-year
Sebastian Wroe followed that up with a win from the third position (8-4) and graduate student
Keegan Morris and first-year
Olof Persson won a thriller at first doubles by a score of 8-7 (7-4).
The Ducks closed out the match at singles with two more victories. First-year
Vivek Harinarayan closed out the match with a 6-0, 6-2 win from the third position and and first-year
Matt Luzzi earned a 6-0, 6-2 win at the sixth spot.
Up Next: Stevens returns to the courts tomorrow, Friday, May 13, for an NCAA Regional Semifinal matchup against No. 4 Middlebury College. The match will take place in Middlebury, Vt., at 10 a.m.
