Women's Tennis Dominates First Round of MAC Individual Championships

The Ducks did not drop a single set across all 11 brackets

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (Sept. 17, 2022) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team was perfect through its first day at the Middle Atlantic Conference Individual Championships on Saturday. The Ducks saw all 11 of their entrants advance to the semifinal round in their respective brackets at the tournament hosted by King's College and Wilkes University. Stevens advanced to the semifinals in nine brackets and the finals in two brackets.
 
At singles, graduate student Agatha Malinowski advanced to the semifinal round with a pair of victories. She won both matches in straight sets and swept her quarterfinal match by a score of 6-0, 6-0. She will take on Alexandra Pancu from Albright College in her semifinal matchup tomorrow.
 
First-year Stephanie Untermeyer also won both of her matches in straight sets on her way to the semifinals. She only dropped two games across her four sets played and will face Tea Amerise from Wilkes in the semifinal round.
 
In the No. 3 singles flight, junior Polina Odintseva cruised to the semifinal round as a three seed. She won her first round match 6-0, 6-1 and takes on Lydia Barbour from Misericordia University in her semifinal match.
 
Sophomore Emma Eguia received a first-round bye in her flight as the No. 2 seed and then swept her quarterfinals match 6-0, 6-0. She's back in action tomorrow with a semifinal matchup with Meredith Haas from Lebanon Valley College.
 
The only Duck to earn a No. 1 seed in their flight was sophomore Isabella Dona. She received a first-round bye and then swept her quarterfinals match in straight sets without dropping a game. She will battle with Erin Cridge from Misericordia in the semifinal round.
 
First-year Anusha Singh was the final Stevens team member to see singles action. She advanced to the final round in her bracket and did not drop a set in her two victories. She faces Rachel Dougherty from Messiah University in the finals of the No. 7 singles flight.
 
The Ducks continued their success at doubles, and it started with Malinowski and Untermeyer in the first flight. The duo was the No. 2 seed and won their first match 8-4 and their quarterfinal match by a score of 8-0 on their way to the semis. They will face the pair of Pancu and Timothy from Albright.
 
Odintseva and Dona received a bye and won their quarterfinal match by a score of 8-6 to advance and the pairing of Eguia and first-year Anya Sharma received the No. 1 seed in the third flight and advanced with an 8-2 victory in the quarters.
 
The final team was senior Juliette Marchisio and first-year Aliona Heitz who advanced to the finals of their bracket with an 8-0 win in the semis. They will face the duo of Trace and DeLisio from Lebanon Valley.
