HOBOKEN, N.J. (Sept. 4, 2022) – The No. 25 Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team earned an impressive 3-0 victory over No. 19 Franklin & Marshall at home, Sunday evening. All three goals came in the second half as the Ducks surged past the Diplomats in their home opener.
The first half of the was scoreless as both sides felt each other out. The Ducks looked to penetrate into the Franklin & Marshall defensive end but found themselves offsides several times in the first 45 minutes as they looked to attack. Senior goalkeeper
Justin Cross made one routine save to start the game and both sides went into the half knotted up 0-0.
Stevens finally broke through just under 10 minutes into the second half. In the 54th minute, sophomore
Emerico Vespucci sent a long throw into the box that found the foot of junior
Bruno Andino who buried the ball into the bottom left corner. Eight minutes later, the Ducks found themselves with a penalty kick opportunity after a Stevens forward was tripped up in the box by the Diplomats goalkeeper. Sophomore
Luca Campbell buried his attempt and the Ducks led 2-0. The surge finally ended just a few minutes later when sophomore
Adam Berrocal scored the third goal of the game in the 65th minute. He was assisted by Campbell on the play.
The Dipomats had no answer after Stevens' second half offensive push. They were unable to muster enough offense of their own to mount a comeback and the Ducks earned their first win of the season. Stevens improved to 1-0-1 with the win and Franklin & Marshall fell to 1-1-0
Inside the Numbers
- Stevens outshot Franklin & Marshall 10 to 7 and placed seven shots on goal to the Diplomats' two.
- The victory snapped a two-game losing streak against Franklin & Marshall dating back to 2019.
