HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 11, 2023) - Five different players scored for the Ducks as the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team defeated MAC Freedom foe Misericordia 7-1 on Wednesday evening at the DeBaun Athletic Complex.
The Ducks (10-2, 2-0 MAC Freedom) continue to keep winning, extending their season long winning streak to seven games. It is the longest winning streak since 2021, when the Ducks won 11 straight. It is the teams first 2-0 conference start, also since 2021. With the win, Stevens remains undefeated at home this season and sits in first place in the MAC Freedom, tied with DeSales. The six goal margin is the second largest of the season, as the Ducks took down Eastern 8-0 earlier in the year. Misericordia (3-8, 1-1 MAC Freedom) dropped their first conference match of the year.
Stevens dominated the game from start to finish. The Ducks were able to jump on the Cougars in the first, scoring three goals to open up a massive lead early on in the game. Senior Dani Hessels, graduate Lynda Farinella, and senior Julia Zatyko each slotted home a goal in the frame. Farinella also assisted Zatyko's goal. The second quarter proved to be more of the same for the Ducks as they added two more goals before the half. Farinella scored her second of the game at the 26th minute mark on an assist from first-year Lauren Flynn. Junior Makenna Quigley scored the second of the quarter with under a minute left on a rebound from a shot from first-year Sophia Cozza. Stevens led 5-0 at the half.
Stevens continued to pour it on coming out of the break as sophomore Emilia Lopes redirected a shot from Flynn three minutes in to put the Ducks up 6-0. The shutout wouldn't last however, as Misericordia got on the score sheet in the 39th minute, scoring off of a penalty corner. That would be the only goal the Cougars would score as the Ducks capped off an impressive performance with a second goal from Quigley in the 49th minute on an assist from Farinella for the 7-1 victory.
