HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 14, 2023) - Junior Adam Berrocal scored a first half hat trick after coming off the bench as the Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team handled DeSales 4-0 Saturday afternoon at the DeBaun Athletic Complex.
The hat trick for Berrocal was the first by a Stevens player since Daniel Aversano completed the feat on August 31, 2018 against FDU-Florham. The Ducks (6-2-4, 2-0-1 MAC Freedom) remain unbeaten in conference play. Stevens has not lost a home game since October 13, 2021. The four goal margin is their biggest victory of the season. DeSales (5-5-2, 1-1-1 MAC Freedom) lost their first conference game of the season. The Ducks have now won two straight over DeSales. The shutout was the sixth of the season for the Ducks.
Picking things up in the 25th minute, Berrocal subbed on after not starting in the contest. Just three minutes later, he found the back of the net as graduate Bruno Andino and junior Emerico Vespucci combined to find Berrocal as he slotted home to give the Ducks the lead. 11 minutes later, the junior scored again, as junior Tomas Martini passed to Berrocal who took a touch and chipped the keeper to double the home team's advantage. Berrocal scored again with just 27 seconds left in the frame to complete the hat trick and give the Ducks a 3-0 lead at the half.
DeSales was able to settle in the game a little bit in the second half as they gained more possession in the half. None of that mattered though as in the 83rd minute, sophomore Kyle Rothwell scored his first goal of the season to put the Ducks up four. Stevens would see the game out to remain perfect at home this season.
