SCRANTON, Pa. (October 21, 2023) – Senior Meg Dion totaled 26 kills and five digs across two matches as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team defeated Scranton 3-1 (25-18, 25-23, 17-25, 25-16) but fell to No. 1 Juniata 3-1 (16-25, 25-22, 16-25, 19-25) Saturday on the campus of Scranton.
The Ducks (14-7) have won eight out of their last nine contests. The second set win over Juniata was only the fourth set Juniata had dropped all year. Stevens has won 10 games in the non-conference slate this season.
The Rundown (Juniata)
- Stevens hit .030 hitting percentage, while Juniata hit .218 percent.
- After splitting the first six points, Juniata went on a big run to take an 11-4 lead early in the first set. The Eagles would maintain their distance and were able to take the first set.
- In the second frame, the Ducks used an early 6-0 run to gain momentum and take an 8-3 lead. Senior Elle Maggio and junior Cleo Shannon each had a kill. Juniata would come back to take a 10-9 lead, but Stevens did not get phased, scoring the next four. Later up 19-18, Stevens again had a 4-0 run to push their lead to five. They would hold off the Eagles to win the set.
- Juniata won seven of the first ten points in set three. In the set, the Ducks were not able to string together more than two points in a row. Juniata took a 2-1 lead after winning the set 25-16.
- After the Eagles got off to a 6-1 start, Stevens cut the deficit to two in part of a 3-0 run. Senior Madison Sappia had an ace. Stevens would use a six-point run later on in the set to take a 12-9 lead. Junior Parker Adkins had two kills and Dion added one on the run. The Eagles then followed that up with a six point run. Down the stretch, the Eagles were able to hold off the Ducks to win the match.
The Rundown (Scranton)
- Stevens earned the victory against Scranton with a .244 hitting percentage, while Scranton hit .203 percent.
- The Royals scored the first four points and got out to a 7-3 lead. Later down 11-8, the Ducks scored six straight points to take the lead. Dion and senior Liz Patterson each had a kill on the run. The Ducks then went on a 7-0 run three points later to extend their lead. Dion had three kills. Stevens took the first set 25-18.
- Stevens jumped out to a 13-7 lead in set number two. The Ducks' largest lead of the set was seven, but Scranton kept it close and eventually tied things up at 23. To finish off the set, sophomore Gabbi Roberts recorded a kill while sophomore Paulina Miller tallied an ace to give the Ducks the win.
- The Ducks took an early lead in the third set but Scranton rallied back to take a 13-7 lead. They would later lead 18-10. The Royals avoided a sweep by defeating Stevens 25-17.
- Stevens jumped out to an 8-3 lead in set four fueled by Scranton errors. After Scranton scored, the Ducks rattled off five straight points, highlighted by three kills from Shannon. The Ducks were able to close things out and leave Scranton with a kill.

- Dion had 14 kills against Scranton.
