TEANECK, N.J. (February 12, 2023) – Senior Keira Mizzi had 10 wins at epee to move to 99 career victories as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's fencing team went 3-2 Sunday at the FDU Invitational, hosted by Fairleigh Dickinson University at the Stratis Arena inside the Rothman Center.

Junior Alana Schmitt and sophomore Arianna Daringa each had 12 wins at sabre and sophomore Elizabeth MacDonald added seven wins (against only one loss) at foil for the Ducks, who defeated the hosting Knights, Yeshiva University and City College of New York. The Ducks were tripped up by Wagner College and Temple University to close the competition with a 15-22 record.

"It was a good day for Stevens women's fencing, putting together three victories and only losing to two Division I schools," assistant coach Linda Vollkommer-Lynch said. "We were able to get our fencers some highly competitive matches as we look towards the championship season, where that experience will be valuable."

Senior Claire McNeill had nine wins at epee, while first-year Emily Zgombic had six at foil as 16 different Ducks had at least one win. Sophomore Renny Victoria had a season-high six wins at epee, while junior Victoria Beke and first-year Emily Miller each had four. First-year Amber Muzones had a career-best four wins at foil, while senior Ashley McDermott and senior Brianna Ellis each had three. Sophomore foilist Annabelle Crescenzo finished with two wins, as did sophomore sabreist Jia Chen. Sophomore Sofia Savchuk had one win at foil to round out the Ducks' individual wins on the day.

Collectively, the epee group had the best win-loss record on the day, posting a 33-12 cumulative record, while winning four of the five weapon bouts. The sabre group finished 31-14 as a uint, posting a 3-2 record, while the foilists went 26-19 on the day and a 3-2 mark against their counterparts.

The Ducks began the day with a narrow 14-13 setback to Wagner. The Ducks earned victories at epee (5-4) and foil (6-3), with the Seahawks earning the victory at sabre to complete the one-point victory. A 21-6 setback to Temple followed, but the Ducks righted the ship with a 20-7 triumph over FDU - a victory that included dominant 8-1 performances at sabre and epee. Decisive wins over Yeshiva (26-1) and CCNY (25-2) wrapped up the day.
